It is non-hardenable steel and has less cold work hardening. ASTM 405 stainless steel bar has the same oxidation resistance, plasticity, toughness and Cold formability is better than other ferritic stainless steels with high chromium content. ASTM 405 stainless steel bar is suitable for the manufacture of petroleum refining units, pressure vessel linings, steam turbine sheets and composite steel plates.
