409 Steel Plate

As a titanium stabilized ferritic stainless steel, 409 steel plate is most commonly used in automotive exhaust systems where the environment can be quite taxing on the lifetime of the steel. 409 steel plate is a general purpose ferritic stainless steel. Primarily purposed for automotive exhaust systems, this 409 steel plate chromium titanium stabilized stainless steel protects against oxidation.

WELDABILITY

• Readily weldable 409 steel plate

• Pre-heat of 302 to 500oF (150 to 260oC) is recommended

• 409 steel plate at 1400 to 1499oF improved weld ductility

• 409 steel plate is not required when welding thin sections

• Automotive exhaust tubing is typically welded without filler metal
