Galvanized Steel in Plate

Galvannealed is a form of hot-dipped galvanized sheet consisting of a zinc-iron alloy coating on both sides. It is produced from Cold Rolled coil that has been passed continuously through a pot of molten zinc. When the coil exits the zinc bath, the molten zinc is subjected to inline annealing (thus the name “Galvannealed”) that forms the zinc-iron alloy layer. The zinc iron layer has higher surface roughness compared to regular zinc coating, which results in better paint adhesion when the material is painted.

Due to this property, painted GA surface has higher corrosion resistance than painted GI surface. The presence of iron in the zinc iron layer acts as a conductor when the material goes through a welding process, allowing galvannealed materials to have superior welding properties compared to regular galvanized steel. Because of its superior paint adhesion and welding properties, galvannealed steel is favored by automobile and home appliance manufacturers for their painted material needs.

To further satisfy the demand of automobile and home appliance manufacturers, extra high strength materials are developed to allow automobile and home appliance designers to reduce the weight of their products, while maintaining structural rigidity. While extra deep drawing materials are developed to allow the designers to create complex and aesthetically pleasing surfaces.
