DC01 - Cold rolled steel
DC01 steel grade is produced using a cold-rolling process, where hot-rolled steel is further processed at room temperature. The resulting material exhibits uniform thickness, high precision, and a smooth surface finish.
What Is DC01 Steel?
DC01 steel is a cold-rolled, low-carbon steel defined according to European standard EN 10130. It belongs to the DC (cold-drawn) steel family, where "DC" denotes suitability for cold forming, and "01" designates the basic quality grade. DC01 is an unalloyed steel whose clean surface and uniform microstructure make it particularly suitable for secondary processes such as coating, painting, electroplating, and welding. However, DC01 lacks inherent corrosion resistance.

DC01 Steel Physical Properties
DC01 has stable and predictable physical properties.
| Density | ρ / g·cm⁻³ | 7.85 | Provides structural mass and rigidity, consistent with standard carbon steels |
| Melting Point | °C | ~1,460 | Typical melting temperature for mild steel grades |
| Thermal Conductivity | W/m·K | 54 | Ensures good heat dissipation, useful for applications exposed to temperature changes |
| Specific Heat Capacity | J/kg·K | 486 | Indicates the energy needed to raise temperature; moderate heat absorption rate |
| Electrical Resistivity | µΩ·m | 0.12 | Moderate conductivity, suitable for general fabrication processes |
| Thermal Expansion Coefficient | µm/m·°C | 11.7 | Reflects predictable expansion under heat, allowing dimensional accuracy in coatings and welding |
| Magnetic Properties | - | Ferromagnetic | Easily magnetized; important for electrical and mechanical assemblies |
DC01 Steel Mechanical Properties
The mechanical properties of DC01 conform to EN 10130. Actual values may vary slightly depending on thickness and rolling direction. Typical values are shown below:
| Yield Strength | ReL / MPa | 140 – 280 | Defines the stress at which plastic deformation begins; suitable for forming operations |
| Tensile Strength | Rm / MPa | 270 – 410 | Moderate tensile strength allows excellent formability |
| Elongation (A80) | % | ≥ 28 – 30 | Indicates high ductility, supporting deep drawing and bending |
| Hardness (Brinell) | HB | 80 – 120 | Soft structure ideal for forming and stamping |
| Elastic Modulus | E / GPa | ~210 | Comparable to other low-carbon steels |
| Poisson's Ratio | ν | ~0.29 | Standard for mild steels, defining deformation behavior under stress |
| Density | ρ / g/cm³ | 7.85 | Consistent with typical carbon steels |
DC01 Steel Chemical Composition (EN 10130)
| C (Carbon) | ≤ 0.12 | Controls hardness and strength; low carbon ensures high ductility |
| Mn (Manganese) | ≤ 0.60 | Enhances strength and hardenability; improves surface finish |
| P (Phosphorus) | ≤ 0.045 | Increases strength slightly but can reduce toughness |
| S (Sulfur) | ≤ 0.045 | Improves machinability but can decrease ductility |
| Al (Aluminum) | ≤ 0.07 | Used for deoxidation; improves grain refinement and surface quality |
| Fe (Iron) | Balance | Base element of the steel matrix |
How Does DC01 Steel Perform Under High-Temperature Conditions?
DC01 steel is primarily suitable for cold forming and has limited performance at high temperatures, which reduce its strength and formability. However, GNEE STEEL 's DC01 steel has optimized the cold rolling process to ensure that it has excellent strength and toughness at room temperature, making it particularly suitable for precision machining and everyday applications.
