What Is Galvanized Steel and Why Is It So Important?
Galvanized steel is carbon steel that has been coated with a protective zinc layer to prevent corrosion. The zinc coating provides two levels of protection:
first, it acts as a physical barrier that blocks moisture and oxygen from reaching the steel surface;
second, zinc offers sacrificial protection - when the coating is damaged, zinc corrodes first, protecting the underlying steel.
