What is Prepainted Steel

What is Prepainted Steel?

Pre-painted steel material is either a cold rolled, galvanized or tin mill product substrate that is continuously coil coated with an organic- or inorganic-based coating system to protect the steel from corrosion.

Pre-paint steel is a bare metal substrate or corrosion resistant substrate that has had paint applied to both sides through a continuous coil coating process, which produces a uniform paint finish. The metal is unwound, cleaned and chemically treated during the process. Depending on product specifications, one or both sides may then be primed and coated, oven cured and rewound.

Coil Coating (prepaint) is a unique process where steel or aluminum strip in coil form, is cleaned, pre-treated, primed and painted with either inorganic or organic coatings, cured and re-coiled all in one operation. Prepaint eliminates the need for in-plant post painting thereby producing savings in space, labour, inspection, insurance premiums energy and pollution control.
