317L SS Pipes has the same high strength and corrosion resistance as 317 steel but can produce stronger welds due to the low carbon content. Machining ss grade AISI 317L Pipes & Tubes require low speeds and constant feeds to reduce its tendency to work harden. AISI 317L Pipes are tougher than Grade 304 ss with a long stringy chip; however, using chip breakers is recommended. The material in Alloy 317L Tubes should be heated to 1149-1260 Deg C (2100-2300 Deg F); however, it should not be heated below 927 Deg C (1700 Deg F). To optimize corrosion resistance, a post-work annealing is recommended here in Type 316Ti Tubes.
