PPGI Sheet Manufacturing Process

What Is PPGI Sheet?
PPGI sheet is short for pre-painted galvanized steel sheet. It is a kind of pre-painted steel sheet, which uses galvanized steel sheet as the base metal. Then it is painted with one or several layers of organic coatings after surface pretreatment (degreasing and cleaning), and then baked and solidified continuously. Then the coils will be cut into sheets of the desired size. Through rolling equipment, the plain sheets can be profiled into corrugated PPGI sheets.

At GNEE Steel, we commonly use the double-coating and twice-baking methods. If you have special requirements, please let us know. Let's review the process step by step.
1. Uncoil and weld the zinc-coated steel coils so that they can be processed continuously.
2. Then the coils will go through an inlet looper for pretreatment to remove the rust and impurities through degreasing, cleaning, and chemical conversion.
3. Primer coating process. Both sides will be coated and baked for the first time.
4. Finish the coating process. After cooling down, the coils will be painted and dried again.
5. Cool down the coils below 40 °C. After the quality control system, the coils will be rolled up through an outlet looper. Then you can shear or profile the coil into sheets according to your needs.

- How to Calculate the Weight of the PPGI Sheet?
You can estimate the weight of your PPGI sheets with the following formula:
Thickness (mm) * Width (m) * Length (m) * 7.85 = (kg/pcs)
Note: 7.85 is the density of iron. It means per cubic meter of iron weighs 7.85 tons.
The weight per sqm mainly depends on the thickness. For example, if your GI color-coated sheets are gauge 28 (0.38 mm) in thickness, the PPGI sheet weight per sqm is about 2.98 kg. If the thickness is gauge 24 (about 0.61 mm), the weight per square meter is about 4.79 kg.
