Global crude steel production fell 3% year-on-year to 150.6 million tons in August 2022, while China's crude steel production increased 0.5% to 83.9 million tons in August, according to the World Steel Association. Among them, Africa crude steel production was 1.3 million tons in August 2022, an improvement of 3.5% year-on-year; Asia and Oceania crude steel production was 112.6 million tons, down 0.2% year-on-year; the European Union (27) crude steel production was 9.7 million tons, down 13.3% year-on-year; other European countries crude steel production was 3.6 million tons, down 18.6% year-on-year; Middle East crude steel production was 3.2 million tons, an 34.2% higher; North America crude steel production of 9.6 million tons, down 5.4%; Russia and other CIS countries and Ukraine crude steel production of 6.9 million tons, down 22.4%; South America crude steel production of 3.6 million tons, down 10.1%.
From several major electric furnace steel producing countries, Japan's crude steel production was 7.3 million tons, down 7.4% year-on-year; the U.S. crude steel production was 7 million tons, down 7.1% year-on-year; South Korea's estimated crude steel production was 6.1 million tons, down 0.4% year-on-year; Turkey's crude steel production was 2.8 million tons, down 21.0% year-on-year; Iran's crude steel production was 2.1 million tons, up 64.7% year-on-year.
